What’s going on guys, my name’s Theoatrix and welcome to my complete 1-99 Cooking Guide for OSRS. In this guide, I'll show you every viable training method including some ironman and free to play methods.

Why Train Cooking
Training your cooking level is essential in progressing your osrs account. You need 70 cooking to be able to get barrows gloves, which is also the highest cooking requirement for the quest cape. You also need 95 cooking to get the achievement diary cape.

Cooking can be a profitable skill, and can also be AFK in most cases. It’s a laid back skill to train, and for ironmen, its a necessity for food.

 

Fastest Ways To 99
If you’d like to train your cooking as fast as possible, then these are the fastest pathways to 99…

Cooking fish then making jugs of wine is the fastest without tick manipulation. With 1 tick karambwans, its possible to get up to 950k xp per hour which makes it the fastest method in the game.

 

Fastest Pathway (Regular Methods)

Level 1-35: Cooking Fish
To reach level 35 cooking, these are the fish you’ll need.

These quantities account for burning some fish, so for most people, this will be enough, but if you’re unlucky and you burn a lot more fish, you may need to buy a few more.. It ranges from shrimp to tuna, with xp rates already close to 100k per hour when you reach tuna.

There’s a range of places you could cook your fish: the best place is at the hosidius range, which requires the easy kourend diary completed. This has a 5% lower burn rate compared to other ranges.

A place with no requirements to access is at the rogues den fire, which is right next to a banker. Other notable banks include the myths guild and the mor ul rek bank, both of which are right next to a stove.

Cooking fish involves withdrawing a full inventory of raw fish, using one on the fire, selecting to cook your entire inventory, then going afk. You can afk for 67 seconds per full inventory of food, which is quite a while.

 

Level 35-99: Jugs Of Wine
So once you reach level 35, you can do the fastest viable method in the game. When you unlock these, you can already get 300k cooking xp per hour, and it scales up to 490k xp per hour above level 68, which is when you stop failing to make them.

On average, it takes around 30 hours to reach 99 cooking with jugs of wine, making it one of the fastest 99s in the game. 

To reach 99, you’ll need to buy around 65 thousand grapes, and 65 thousand jugs of wine… and after selling back the wines, you can expect to lose only 3.5 mil gp in total.

Wines can be made by standing at any bank, and you use grapes and jugs of water on eachother, then bank them and repeat. Once the wines ferment, you receive your experience. If you continue making wines, the ferment timer resets, but at a lower level, its recommended to let your wines ferment every now and again so that you can level up for a lower fail rate.

 

Fastest Pathway (1-Tick Methods)

Level 1-30: 1T Poison Karambwan
The fastest pathway with tick manipulation, starts with 1 ticking poison karambwans.

This is done by using a karambwan on a fire or range every gametick, while holding down the spacebar. At level 1, you can already get 100k xp per hour, so you’ll level up extremely quickly. You need around 500 raw karambwans to reach level 30.

 

Level 30-99: 1T Karambwan
And at level 30, you can successfully cook regular karambwans, which are done through the same method as poison karambwans. When you unlock these at level 30, you already get over 450k xp per hour, scaling up to 950k at 99.

You’ll need approximately 75 thousand raw karambwans to reach 99 with this pathway, and getting to 99 will only take 14 hours.
So you have to use the karambwan on the fire every game tick, consistently. If you're having trouble, you can try using a metronome runelite plugin or using a 100 beats per minute metronome.

 

 

Alternative Methods
Now ill cover some alternative cooking methods..

Regular Fish
And you can cook regular fish all the way to 99, which can be a very AFK and sometimes profitable pathway to 99 cooking. 

Cooking gauntlets are highly recommended for cooking fish, and will save you quite a lot of money in the long run.
Theyre rewarded after the family crest quest, and with them, you have a reduced chance of burning fish that you cook. However, cooking gauntlets dont work with some fish, like karambwans and even tuna.

But tuna can be a great way to train your cooking. You stop burning tunas at 63, and if you were to cook tunas from 63 to 99, youd currently profit 60 mil. The xp rates are about 140k xp per hour, meaning 99 is going to take around 90 hours.

Monkfish are another notable option, where you stop burning at 86, and from then until 99, you profit 83 mil at this point in time. Although, with cooking gauntlets plus at the hosidius range, you can stop burning them at level 82. 

Sharks are also a decent way to train, providing over 250k xp per hour, while being profitable. You will burn quite a few when you unlock them, but overall you do still make a profit going from 80 to 99 cooking.

 

Bake Pie Spell
Another alternative cooking method, which can actually provide some of the highest xp rates, is casting the bake pie spell. This requires the lunar diplomacy quest completed to be able to use the lunar spellbook, and also needs 65 magic. Sometimes, it can be difficult to get the ingredients for this spell, but if you buy at the current GE prices, you can expect a profit for most pies. 

At 47 cooking, fish pies provide over 300k per hour and currently give the highest profit out of all the pies.

At level 95, you can cook summer pies for a max xp rate of 490k xp per hour, making it a faster method than making wines. Going from 95 to 99 by baking summer pies will take only 9 hours.

Bake pie can also be a decently AFK way to train cooking, providing at least 40 seconds of AFK time.

 

Barbarian Fishing
The final alternative method for this section, is training your cooking while barbarian fishing. Cutting the fish nets a small amount of cooking experience which makes it a decent passive way to train cooking.

Your cooking xp rate really depends on your fishing level and whether youre 3 ticking. With regular AFK training, you can get 5k to 9k cooking xp per hour while you fish. 

If youre 3 ticking, it ranges from 9k to 16k per hour. Going from 58 fishing, all the way to 99 fishing, youre going to get around 1.6 million cooking xp if you cut all of the fish.

 

 

Ironman Training
As an ironman, levelling your cooking is important to give access to more food options. From a low level, most of an ironmans cooking can be done just by cooking caught fish. Thats up until level 20, where you can access the mess hall on zeah. 

At 20, you can make servery meat pies, and you can obtain all of the ingredients from the mess hall.

This place is one of the best cooking training spots for ironmen, removing the need to gather your own ingredients. At 65 cooking, you unlock servery pineapple pizzas, and this can give over 200k xp per hour.

Trouble brewing is another method thats excellent for ironmen, where you can get around 200k xp per hour.

In the minigame, you chop the scrapey tree, then turn it into bark for fletching experience, and use the bark on the hopper to gain cooking experience. 

 

Fishing for karambwans, then cooking them, is another common way for an ironman to gain cooking experience.

You need around 75 thousand karambwans for 99 cooking, so this is going to be more of a partial method on your journey to 99.

 

A method that is great for ironmen, and particularly for ultimate ironmen, is making jugs of wine out of the recipe for disaster chest. In there, you can buy grapes and jugs, and nearby theres a sink to fill up your jugs. Higher level ironmen can also use the humidify spell to speed this up.

Going all the way to level 99 with this method is only going to cost a bit over 100k in coins, but it is slower than the other methods because of the time it takes to gather the supplies.

 

 

F2P 1-99 Cooking
In free to play, there are still some decent options for training your cooking level.
Wines are available in free to play, which makes them the fastest way to train your cooking. Redberry pies and meat pies are also fast at a low level, as well as stews.

Alternatively, I've put together a pathway for free to play which shows a way to 99 without spending much money.

Following this pathway, you actually profit over 5 mil at this point in time.

 

Another free to play method, more directed towards free to play ironmen, is fishing trout and salmon at barbarian village, then cooking them on the fire thats nearby.

This is roughly 40k cooking xp per hour if youre a bit afk, and can be increased with 3 tick fishing.
